    The York/Poquoson Department of Social Services serves families and individuals who reside in York County and the City of Poquoson. The programs are funded by a combination of federal, state and local sources. The department is locally administered by a Board of Social Services whose members are appointed by the York County Board of Supervisors and the Poquoson City Council.

Colonial Behavioral Health

The behavioral health agency serving the citizens of James City County, York County, Williamsburg, and Poquoson. The Board of Directors, who are comprised of appointed representatives from each jurisdiction, oversee operations and services to individuals. Colonial Behavioral Health serves children, adults, seniors, their family members, and other citizens on behalf of behavioral health care in the areas of mental health, intellectual disability, and substance abuse.

Provides child advocacy services by way of well-trained community volunteers who advocate on behalf of community children that have been found to be abused and neglected. Colonial CASA works to ensure that while these children are within the court’s supervision, they are safe, receiving the necessary services in a timely manner, and ultimately will live in a safe and permanent home.

Lackey Clinic provides quality medical care for low income and uninsured residents of York County, Greater Williamsburg and the Virginia Peninsula.

Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center

The Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center is operated by the Middle Peninsula Juvenile Detention Commission for the Commonwealth of Virginia. It serves both the 9th and the 15th District Court Service Units for a total of 18 localities. Merrimac is a 48 bed facility, which provides secure detention for juveniles who are awaiting court hearings or who have been found guilty and have been sentenced to serve time in detention. The average length of stay is about 21 days; those participating in the Post-Dispositional program serve 180 days.

Olde Towne Medical Center
