Mental health support virtual courses begin next week

CANTON – Two free Stark County National Alliance on Mental Illness virtual courses begin next week for people struggling with mental health issues.

NAMI Stark County provides mental health advocacy and support to people and families in Stark County impacted by mental illness.

The courses that begin next week are as follows:

Family-to-Family is an eight-week (begins Tuesday from noon to 2:30 p.m., two and a half hours per week) education program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. The course is sponsored by Stark County’s National Alliance on Mental Illness and is taught by a trained family member who has a family member with mental health diagnosis. This course will be offered again beginning Sept. 4 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.; July 13 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Sept. 4 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.; and Oct. 12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Peer-to-Peer is an eight-week (begins Thursday from 10 a.m to noon, eight consecutive weeks, two hours per week) education program sponsored by Stark County’s National Alliance on Mental Illness and is taught by trained peers who live with a mental health diagnosis who are successfully managing their own conditions. This course will be offered again beginning July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Both NAMI courses are a safe, confidential space to learn more about recovery in an accepting environment. There is a monetary stipend given to participants in each course for attendance. The courses are free, but pre-registration is required.
