West Side Career Tech to provide digital mental health services

The Citizens' Voice - 2/28/2023

Feb. 28—PRINGLE — The West Side Career and Technology Center will start providing optional, voluntary mental health services to students through digital mental health provider Kooth Inc.

The center's joint operating committee approved an agreement with Kooth during Monday's committee meeting. The regional high school in Pringle will not have to pay to participate, said Thomas Duffy, Dallas School District superintendent and chief administrator of the career center.

Members of the Dallas, Lake-Lehman, Northwest Area, Wyoming Area and Wyoming Valley West school boards serve on the committee that governs school operations. The Wyoming Area and Wyoming Valley West school districts approved agreements with Kooth earlier this school year.

The state is funding participation in the pilot program. Last year, the state announced $3 million was available for the mental health program for schools.

The West Side The West Side Career and Technology Center provides career-oriented instruction for roughly 500 students in grades 9-12.

Last October, Kooth CEO Tim Barker joined state Rep. Aaron Kaufer, R-120, Kingston, and local officials to announce the company will create 15 to 20 jobs at the Cross Valley West Professional Building at 150 Welles St. in Forty Fort. Students can register at www.kooth.com.
